Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic versatility earned her praise across many genres ranging from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson was the child of a filmmaker and architect. Her family was based in New York City. Hunter was the sister of Johansson was also born in the city of New York. At a very young age, she developed a passion for performing and started auditioning commercials at the age of seven. Her interest in acting grew quickly, and she was shortly thereafter to the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. At age eight she appeared with Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry, and at nine she made her first film appearance in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson was later seen in Just Cause (1995), her debut came in the form of Manny & Lo a coming of age film about sisters fleeing. The film received praise for her performance as a teenager who has had a life-threatening accident The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition for her role as the cynical teenage exiled Rebecca in Ghost World (2001). She discovered her passion for acting as a young child. Thanks to the encouragement from her parents, Smith got her first role in the acting world at the age of six. It was a Dannon yogurt TV commercial. Much like many other new actresses choose to pursue, she decided to build her skills in theater. She also worked in other productions across the USA, while Wildflower was her first stage production. She attended the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory, part of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
